The IEOR Group recently hosted an expert talk by Dr. S. Karthik Mukkavilli, Group Head of AI at Mercuria and Adjunct Professor at Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST). The talk explored how artificial intelligence is transforming decision-making in complex operational and market systems across industries.

Drawing on over 15 years of experience at the intersection of science, engineering, and AI, Dr. Mukkavilli shared insights from his work leading global AI initiatives at Mercuria. He discussed the development of enterprise AI agents for middle- and back-office operations and the application of algorithmic AI in front-office trading to enhance operational efficiency and support real-time decision-making.

He also highlighted the broader role of AI in scientific and climate applications, reflecting on his previous research at IBM Research and collaborations with organisations including NASA.
